Our industry is committed to innovation, continuous improvement, transparency and developing collaborative solutions for a better future.

Net-zero concrete
Canada’s cement and concrete industry has consistently supported strong action on climate change. Over the past 30 years, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 20%, through innovation and continuous improvements. Our Concrete Zero Action Plan shows that emissions reductions (from our 2020 baseline) of 40% by 2030, 59% by 2040, and net-zero by 2050 are possible using today’s technologies. As new technologies are developed and proven, these reductions could accelerate.

Canada’s cement and concrete industry has consistently supported strong action on climate change. Over the past 30 years, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 20%, through innovation and continuous improvements. Today, we’re charting a roadmap to zero carbon concrete by 2050, with collective milestone targets to reduce the carbon intensity of cement (the key ingredient in concrete), by up to 40% by 2030.

Innovation
Our industry champions innovation to advance the policy solutions needed to meet Canada’s climate objectives.
Our partnership with the Government of Canada supports our net-zero concrete goals while furthering Canadian leadership in clean technologies.
We’re leading the way in the fight to tackle climate change by joining the Net-Zero Challenge, a voluntary Government of Canada initiative that encourages businesses to develop and implement credible and effective plans to transition their facilities and operations to net-zero emissions by 2050.
We’re also proactively participating in the National Research Council’s Lifecycle Assessment2 (LCA2) initiative, which will advance the measurement and evaluation of the carbon footprint of structural and other building materials.
In Canada and elsewhere, our industry continues to advance concrete products that anticipate the changing needs of construction and bolster the circular economy, from self-leveling to 3-D printed concrete.

Communities
The cement and concrete industry is a local-community industry and our operations stretch far beyond urban centres into rural and remote communities. Our employees are citizens and neighbours in the communities where they work and raise their families. So naturally, they’re committed to making cement and concrete one of the most sustainable building materials on the planet.

Health and safety
The safety of our employees, customers, and neighbours is of paramount importance. As such, we’re committed to operating safely and responsibly, creating a healthy, secure working environment for our employees and a safe, nurturing environment for our communities. To that end, we work tirelessly to create a culture steeped in safe behaviours, proactively implementing best practices and audits into our processes to prevent injuries, illnesses and property damage.
