The Cement Association of Canada welcomes the decision to pause the implementation of the Section 338 tariffs as Canada and the United States continue working toward a new trade agreement.
Cement – the key ingredient in concrete- is a foundational material used in the construction of houses, pipelines, electricity supply, roads and bridges, data centres, and virtually every major construction project across the country and across the border through a fully integrated supply chain.
The current pause provides additional time for Canada and the United States to find a path forward that recognizes the importance of integrated North American supply chains. We encourage both governments to use this opportunity to reach an agreement that supports trade, investment and economic growth in both countries.
A stable trading relationship benefits our economies, communities, and our workers on both sides of the border. It also helps create greater certainty for the infrastructure and housing projects that communities across Canada and the United States are counting on.
The Cement Association of Canada will continue to engage constructively with the Government of Canada and industry stakeholders throughout this process. Our priority is a trade environment that allows Canadian cement and concrete producers to remain competitive while supporting the timely and cost-effective delivery of the housing and infrastructure North America needs.
